Dr Watling provides a powerful assessment on the profession of arms and delves into the human elements of war and contemporary battlefields.

He states he will cover four things:

1. Firstly, address what is the relationship between technology and professionalism.
2. Secondly, suggest some aspects of the human face of battle which are changing and which we need to confront and be prepared for.
3. Thirdly, address what that means for professionalism.
4. And fourthly, put that in the context of great power war, which is very different from the kinds of conflicts that the professional community has faced in the current generation so far.
