Mick Ryan
Biography
MAJGEN Mick Ryan spent 35 years in the Australian Army and commanded at troop, squadron, regiment, task force and brigade levels. He served in East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan. Mick has published three books since 2022: War Transformed (2022), White Sun War: The Campaign for Taiwan (2023), and The War for Ukraine: Strategy and Adaptation Under Fire (2024). Mick is a strategic advisor to several companies including U.S. drone company Skydio, the Washington DC-based Special Competitive Studies Project, Australia’s Beaten Zone defence venture capital company, the Useful Fiction company, and the UK-based Janes.
Mick is the inaugural Senior Fellow for Military Studies at the Lowy Institute in Sydney, and an adjunct fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington DC.
