Australian Army Journal, Volume XVIII, Number 1

Promo for AAJ Vol XVIII - 1/22

This edition of the Australian Army Journal (AAJ) examines the foundations of professional mastery and doctrine, and reinforces the proposition that how we think inevitably affects how we perform.

Opening with articles by Mark Gilchrist, Mark Mankowski and Nick Bosio, the journal considers how the ADF can maximise the effectiveness of joint operations, particularly in the context of Australia’s rapidly evolving strategic circumstances.

Nicholas Mahr, Mark Sargent and James Casey challenge elements of doctrine and offer well evidenced recommendations to improve Army’s approach to operational planning.  In his timely paper, Leo Purdy provides a brief history of armoured vehicle-borne infantry.

Book reviews by Peter Dean, Sonya Russell and Atonio Nagauna reflect on the experience of World War Two from the perspective of the people of Borneo and Fiji.  Meanwhile, Albert Palazzo’s book review considers how enduring human values will underpin future warfare scenarios.

The AAJ provides a forum for ideas and debate about land power and welcomes contributions to future editions.
