Steven Henry

Group Captain Steven Henry joined the Royal Australian Air Force in 1995, and graduated from the Australian Defence Force Academy in 1997. After early postings as an Air Battle Manager, he posted to the United States Air Force’s 2^nd Space Warning Squadron to operate the Space Based Infrared System (2003 – 2005).

GPCAPT Henry completed postings to Defence Science and Technology Group and Headquarters 41 Wing before proceeding to HQ Joint Operations Command (HQJOC) (2008–2011), where he established the precursor to the Australian Space Operations Centre and deployed on Op SLIPPER.

GPCAPT Henry completed Australian Command and Staff Course in 2015 before taking up an exchange position with the US Air Force at the Pentagon, where assisted in the development and application of US Defence space policy (2016–2017)

After a space capability role in Air Force HQ, GPCAPT Henry commanded the Surveillance and Control Training Unit (2020–2022) and completed a Master of Space Operations (UNSW) in 2020.

GPCAPT Henry was Director Space Force Generation at Space Command, where he completed a Global Executive MBA (UniSA) before completing the Canadian Forces National Security Program 2024/25. He spent the second half of 2025 as Chief of Staff for Indo-Pacific Endeavour in HQJOC before posting to his current role as Chief of Staff in HQ Joint Capabilities Group.

GPCAPT Henry is married to Kellie. His 21-year-old twin sons (Matthew and Jacob) are living their own lives in Newcastle, but his 10-year-old daughter (Sophie) insists on living at home so she can run the place. He walks Rusty (Golden Retriever), plays golf badly and cycles to keep fit and enjoys reading whenever he can.
