Please complete the following fields in relation to the 'author' of the article, paper or publication to be contributed.

Articles for publication in the Australian Army Journal (AAJ) must be 4000-8000 words including footnotes/endnotes, excluding citations.

Articles for publication in the AARC’s Occasional Paper series must be 10,000-20000 words including footnotes/endnotes, excluding citations.

Articles for publication in the Land Power Forum must be 600-1000 words including footnotes/endnotes.

Entry Details:

The Chief of Army Essay Competition is open to serving ADF personnel (SERCAT 3–7) and Australian public servants employed by the Department of Defence.

Essay Requirements for the Chauvel Prize:

  • must be 5,000 words in length (+/- 10%, excluding footnotes)
  • must be an original, unpublished work
  • academically styled
  • must contain citations to relevant sources
  • required to address one of the three questions on the competition page
