Army Innovation Day
Introduction
Army Innovation Day (AID) is Army's innovation and experimentation series, designed to connect Army, industry and academia in the exploration of emerging technologies relevant to future land capability.
AID supports Army's ongoing transformation and contributes to Army's role in delivering the National Defence Strategy by providing opportunities to identify, assess and experiment with emerging technologies and innovative approaches to future operational challenges.
Supporting Army's Transformation
The National Defence Strategy directs Army to optimise for littoral manoeuvre with a long-range strike capability and contribute to Australia's Strategy of Denial. Army must be prepared to fight and win in the littorals, integrate with the joint force, allies and partners, and continually adapt to the changing character of warfare.
Recent conflicts have highlighted the accelerating pace of technological change and the importance of rapidly adapting emerging technologies for operational use. Army Innovation Day provides a mechanism for Army to engage with innovators and better understand technologies that may contribute to future capability.
Why Army Innovation Day?
Army Innovation Day provides opportunities to explore emerging technologies and innovative approaches relevant to future land operations and capability development.
Previous activities have explored a broad range of technologies including autonomous systems, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, sensing and battlespace awareness, power and energy solutions, advanced manufacturing and other emerging capabilities relevant to future land capability.
Army Innovation Day is not focused on any single technology area. The focus of each activity evolves over time, reflecting Army's priorities, technological developments and the changing strategic environment.
Through engagement, demonstration and experimentation activities, Army Innovation Day helps Army maintain a contemporary understanding of technologies that may contribute to future capability.
Industry and Academia Engagement
Army Innovation Day provides opportunities for industry and academia to engage directly with Army and contribute ideas, technologies and solutions to future capability challenges.
This aligns with the Defence Industry Development Strategy's emphasis on closer collaboration between Defence, industry and academia to accelerate innovation, support capability development and strengthen Australia's sovereign defence industrial base.
Army Innovation Day supports Defence's broader objective of identifying, developing and accelerating innovative Australian solutions that address Defence challenges and contribute to future capability advantage.
